De Verenigde Staten hebben een nieuwe stap gezet in het uitleveringsverzoek van Turkije voor de leider van de Fethullahistische Terreur Beweging (FETÖ) Fethullah Gülen.
Het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie gaat een delegatie afvaardigen naar Turkije voor besprekingen in de Gülen-zaak. De Turkse regering heeft na de couppoging op 15 juli een verzoek ingediend voor de arrestatie en uitlevering van Gülen, die in Amerika woonachtig is.
Onder leiding van Bekir Bozdag, heeft het ministerie van Justitie in Turkije een tweede verzoek ingediend voor de arrestatie van Gülen.
Naar aanleiding van dit verzoek heeft het Amerikaanse ministerie van Justitie, haar Turkse evenknie een brief gestuurd. Daarin is voorgesteld dat een Amerikaanse delegatie naar Turkije gaat voor besprekingen over de kwestie of andersom een Turkse delegatie naar Amerika gaat.
Turkije heeft daarop ingestemd met het ontvangen van een Amerikaanse delegatie in Turkije. De Turkse delegatie zal daarna afreizen naar de Verenigde Staten.
Aanstaande week komt een delegatie van deskundigen uit de Verenigde Staten naar Turkije om besprekingen te voeren.
